THE PLACES

Masseria Spartivento is located in a green oasis a few kilometers far from Otranto, on the northern coast. Its position is perfect to easily reach the most interesting touristic and cultural places.


OTRANTO

It’s the most East-located town in Italy. It rose up on the bank of the canal, which it took its name from, about 82km wide, dividing Italy from Albany. The prehistoric evidence found in the local cave showed that this land was already inhabited in the distant past.

In ancient times the town was called Hydruntum, from the name of the river Idro flowing into the sea near the coast, but there are dissenting opinions about its real origin: many think it is of Messapian origin, others believe it descends from the Cretan colonization. Today Otranto is a small quiet town turned into a lively and dynamic touristic area, where you can find visitors from all over Europe, since the town is also rightly included in the list of the most beautiful Hamlets of Italy.

It’s shore is known for its low and sandy sea bottom, with the one exception for the harbor’s bottom, that reaches a depth useful for the docking of ships of small siz.

TURKISH BAY

A wild place, reachable only by foot. The legend has it landing point for the Turkish in the Fifteenth Century.

ALIMINI LAKES

Not only a tourist attraction, they are part of the preserved Oasis and are connected to each other by a canal. Great Alimini is almost completely surrounded by rocks and pine groves. Little Alimini is composed of many fresh water springs.

ORTE

A little lake of a typical red color, due to a concentration of bauxite. A beautiful color contrast with the green of the surrounding tree line. A place to be admired.

ZINZULUSA

A natural crib located along the coast between Castro and Santa Cesarea Terme. It is typical for having both sea and fresh spring, clear and cold waters.
